Young WCOB players building their soccer skills during a development session

Player development

The
Beginning

Building blocks. Our pre-academy development programs are for young players who aspire to sharpen their skills and one day play travel soccer.

Fun

Turn soccer into a fun sport.

Learn

Understand the game.

Grow

Prepare to compete.

Year-round training

Fall. Winter. Spring.

Three seasons of training-only opportunities to sharpen skills before making the move to travel soccer — no weekend games, just weekly Friday sessions built around development.

August – November

Fall

Start the year sharp

Fall sessions run alongside the outdoor season and focus on ball mastery, first touch and confidence on the ball — the foundations every travel player needs. Players train once a week on Fridays, with no weekend game commitment.

December – March

Winter

Keep the momentum indoors

When the weather turns, development moves indoors. Winter training keeps touches high through the cold months with small-sided games, footwork and quick decision-making, so players arrive at spring tryouts ahead of the curve.

April – June

Spring

Make the move

Spring sessions sharpen finishing, passing range and game understanding ahead of summer tryouts. This is the season most development players make the jump to travel soccer — coaches help families find the right team placement.

How it works

Skills first. Travel later.

Who it's for

Young players who aspire to sharpen their skills and one day play travel soccer in the Oak Brook and Joliet area.

Train, don't travel

These are training-only programs — no league games, no weekend travel. Just focused weekly sessions to build skills before making the move to travel soccer.

When & where

All programs are hosted on Fridays in Oak Brook and Joliet. Exact session times are shared during registration.

The next step

Ready for travel soccer?

When a development player is ready to compete, the competitive pathway is waiting — local teams from under 7 through under 13, then academy and MLS NEXT opportunities through SC Wave.
